Hitchcock Lab
Cognitive science in the service of better mental health.
The Hitchcock Lab is led by Associate Professor Caitlin Hitchcock, a clinical psychologist at the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences. We study the everyday workings of the mind, especially memory, to understand why low mood and the effects of trauma take hold, and what can help people recover.
Our work sits between basic cognitive science and clinical care. By uncovering the mental processes that drive depression and post-traumatic stress, we design new, evidence-based interventions and test them in the real world, including with young people and communities who don't always have easy access to support.
We're also interested in how digital tools can make effective care easier to reach and to scale: technologies that help people and practitioners track wellbeing over time, and put research-backed techniques into more hands.
